What’s next for the Siem Reap Tourism Sector? H.E. Mr, Ngouv Sengkak unveils the latest trends at this year’s “One Vision, One Siem Reap” forum

Last weekend, H.E. Mr, Ngouv Sengkak, Vice Governor of Siem Reap Province, announced the major trends influencing the Siem Reap tourism industry as of 2025, as well as defining the key strategy to develop the industry in the coming years.

These detailed findings were presented during his presentation at this year’s “One Vision, One Siem Reap" event, held at Rose Apple Square in Siem Reap city on Saturday June 14 th .

One Vision, One Siem Reap is an annual event organized by IPS Cambodia and Urban Living Solutions (ULS) to champion growth and intersectoral business collaboration in Cambodia’s premier tourism town.

The event brought together key thought leaders from Siem Reap’s public and private sectors sharing perspectives and data on the real estate and hospitality industries to discuss recent changes in the city and the impacts of those changes on the local business and investment landscape.

IPS Cambodia is pleased to share these findings to our audience and offer investor’s targeting Siem Reap for real estate or hospitality investments a chance to understand key drivers of the market as of 2025, and opportunities in the pipeline in the medium and long term.

The tourism industry is a strong growth driver in the Siem Reap market, underpinning the province’s attractiveness for real estate investors.

The report detailed by H.E. Mr, Ngouv Sengkak begins by offering a summary of Siem Reap.

• Siem Reap has a total area: 42,473 km2 and is 314km from Phnom Penh Capital.
• The city includes: Sangkats: 12 ; Villages: 99 ; Total households: 52,875 houses ; Number of Family: 69,459 Families ; Population: 299,562 (Female 156,924).
• Meanwhile, the overall GDP Breakdown of Siem Reap in 2025 includes: Services: 69.1%; Agriculture: 28.4% and Handicrafts: 2.5%.

His Excellency also overviewed the most major improvements that the city has witnessed in recent periods. The key Urban Infrastructure Development that has been achieved in Siem Reap in recent years includes:

• Stormwater & wastewater systems;
• Clean water supply systems;
• Electrical network installation;
• Street lighting installation;
• Sidewalk construction;
• Traffic signage & equipment;
• Landscaping & tree planting.

These changes and more ongoing infrastructural improvements are ensuring an improved living environment for both tourists and residents in the future and supporting the growth in real estate values and demand moving forward.

In terms of tourism status trends, the Vice Governor detailed that Siem Reap Province welcomed 2,791,207 visitors in the first five months of 2025, representing a 52.97% increase from the same period in 2024 (1,824,658 visitors).

This breakdown includes:

• National tourists: 2,263,630 (67.38% increase from 2024’s 1,352,400)
• International tourists: 527,577 (11.71% increase from 2024’s 472,258

In the first 5 months of 2025, there were a total of 3,445 flights arriving in Siem Reap, carrying a total of 348,662 passengers.

These flights included:

A total of 2,868 international flights with a total of 313,449 passengers,

Including:

• From Thailand, 991 flights with a total of 91,600 passengers-Bangkok-Siem Reap (Bangkok Airways, Thai Airways)-Phuket-Siem Reap (Thai Air Asia)
• From Vietnam, a total of 1,075 flights with a total of 128,515 passengers-Ho Chi Minh City-Siem Reap (Air Cambodia, Vietnam Airlines)-Hanoi-Siem Reap (Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Air Cambodia)-Da Nang-Siem Reap (Air Cambodia)
• From Laos, there are 150 flights, totaling 12,788 passengers-Luang Prabang-Pakse-Siem Reap (Lao Airlines)-Hanoi-Luang Prabang-Siem Reap (Vietnam Airlines)-From China (Kunming-Siem Reap) there are 52 flights with 5,136 passengers.
• From Singapore (Singapore-Siem Reap) there are 329 flights with 36,914 passengers. (Singapore Airlines, Air Asia Cambodia)
• From Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur-Siem Reap) 151 flights, 22,527 passengers (Air Asia)
• From South Korea (Incheon-Siem Reap) 103 flights, 15,513 passengers. (Asiana Airlines, Sky Angkor Airlines)
• Emirate Airlines launched its first flight to Siem Reap on June 3, 2025, with the route (Dubai Bangkok-Siem Reap)

Meanwhile, Domestic flights totaled 1,264 flights with a total of 77,999 passengers. This included:

• Phnom Penh-Siem Reap, operated by Air Cambodia, Air Asia Cambodia-Sihanoukville-Siem Reap, operated by Cambodia Angkor Air, Air Asia Cambodia.

A host of hospitality amenities greeted these guests when they arrived in Siem Reap.  In terms of Siem Reap’s Tourism Business Base in 2025, a detailed breakdown was offered by the Vice Governor:

As of May 2025, Siem Reap’s hotel accommodation sector comprised 189 establishments offering a total of 10,017 guest rooms.

• There are 241 restaurants with a total of 16,720 seats and 3,101 staff members (1,737 female).
• There are 67 massage parlors, equivalent to 606 beds, with a total of 473 staff members (388 female).
• Karaoke: 12 venues (149 rooms) employing 285 staff (202 female)
• Disco Clubs: 3 venues (300 total capacity) with 116 staff (48 female)
• Beer Gardens: 30 locations (3,365 seats) employing 643 staff (341 female)
• Tour Guides: 5,199 registered (725 female)
• Travel Agencies: 263 operational
• Tourism Sports Facilities: 10 locations employing 524 staff (261 female)

Outside of 2025 market trends, the report also identifies current and high-potential tourism destinations inside of Siem Reap Province. These eclectic and diverse offerings demonstrate that Siem Reap is becoming a tourism destination with much more to offer than the Angkor Wat temple complex alone. The province offers a range of cultural, agricultural and natural wonders for visitors to explore.
